I recently watched Cast Away, and honestly I have to say that I didn't care for it that much. Everybody kept on telling me that it was so great, and that it was one of the greatest movies that they had ever seen. I really do not agree on that. First of all, Tom Hanks is definitely not one of my favorite actors. I don't know what it is, but something about him just makes me dislike him. Also, I didn't like the fact that mostly all of the movie was focused around this one man. I found it very boring, there were several times throughout the movie where I kept on looking at how much time was left wondering when it was going to end. I also didn't like the ending. I'm one for happy endings, and it was just completely useless. Not only did he not get the girl that he was in love with, but it ended with him standing in the middle of the crossroads, not knowing where to go. Now I know that that's all metaphorical and everything, but I feel like movies are supposed to tell a story from beginning to end, and if they don't tell the ending of the story, then it's useless. Looking back, I can't say that there was any scene that I partically liked. People on forums say that the scene where he loses Wilson is one of the most depressing scenes ever, I just don't get it. Yes, I understand that the volleyball was his only friend on the islane, but HE WAS A VOLLEYBALL. He wasn't real, and could definitely not hear him when he was saying he was sorry. There are just so many things in that movie that I would love to jump into the screen and yell at Tom Hanks for.
However, I do not regret watching it. I have never regreted watching a movie, because no matter how much I dislike it, it broadens my mind to the world, which is the main reason that I watch movies to begin with.
So all in all, I give Cast Away maybe two stars at most for it's lame and cliche storyline, lack of interest to myself, and bad ending.
